BATTERY MODULE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18396643 titled 'BATTERY MODULE

The battery module described in the patent application consists of a battery cell stack with multiple battery cells stacked together, plate-shaped members at both ends of the stack, and cushioning material placed between the cells and/or between the stack and the plate-shaped members.

  • The cushioning material includes two first elastic members on the outer sides of the stack and a second elastic member between them, with the second elastic member having a high spring constant per unit area of 0.9 MPa/mm or more.
  • This design helps to absorb shocks and vibrations, protecting the battery cells from damage during use.
  • The use of high-quality cushioning materials enhances the durability and safety of the battery module.
  • The specific arrangement of elastic members ensures effective cushioning while maintaining structural integrity.
  • This innovation can be applied to various battery modules in different industries, such as electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and renewable energy storage systems.

Potential Applications: - Electric vehicles - Consumer electronics - Renewable energy storage systems

Problems Solved: - Protection of battery cells from shocks and vibrations - Enhanced durability and safety of battery modules

Original Abstract Submitted

Provided is a battery module including a battery cell stack in which a plurality of battery cells are stacked, a pair of plate-shaped members provided at both ends of the battery cell stack in a stacking direction, and a cushioning material disposed between the plurality of battery cells and/or between the battery cell stack and one of the plate-shaped members. The cushioning material includes a pair of first elastic members arranged on both outer sides in the stacking direction of the battery cell stack, and a second elastic member disposed between the pair of first elastic members. The second elastic member has a spring constant per unit area of 0.9 MPa/mm or more.
