INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18396635 titled 'INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes an information processing apparatus that can predict and announce the switch from autonomous driving to manned driving in a vehicle. It involves determining the timing for this switch based on the vehicle's location and providing relevant information to the driver.

  • **Key Features and Innovation:**
   * Predicting the switch from autonomous to manned driving based on the vehicle's location.
   * Providing advance notification to the driver before the switch occurs.
   * Using captured images from a vehicle-mounted camera to detect objects in front of the vehicle.
   * Outputting utterance content related to the detected object to inform the driver.
  • **Potential Applications:**
   * Autonomous vehicle technology.
   * Driver assistance systems.
   * Traffic management systems.
  • **Problems Solved:**
   * Enhancing driver awareness during the transition from autonomous to manned driving.
   * Improving safety by providing timely information to the driver.
   * Optimizing the driving experience in autonomous vehicles.
  • **Benefits:**
   * Increased driver confidence and control.
   * Enhanced safety on the road.
   * Improved communication between the vehicle and the driver.
  • **Commercial Applications:**
   * Automotive industry for autonomous vehicles.

  • **Frequently Updated Research:**
   * Ongoing developments in autonomous vehicle technology.
   * Updates on driver assistance systems and communication protocols.

Questions about Autonomous Driving Transition: 1. How does the apparatus determine the timing for switching from autonomous to manned driving?

   - The apparatus determines the timing based on the vehicle's location and the prediction of the switch.

2. What type of information is provided to the driver before the switch from autonomous to manned driving?

   - The apparatus outputs utterance content related to objects detected in front of the vehicle to inform the driver.

Original Abstract Submitted

An information processing apparatus includes a processor configured to: determine a first timing that precedes a notification for announcing in advance switching from autonomous driving of a vehicle to manned driving, in a case where occurrence of the switching from autonomous driving to manned driving is predicted due to the vehicle capable of autonomous driving approaching a predetermined location, and output to the vehicle, in a case where the first timing is reached, utterance content that takes, as a topic, an object that is present in front of the vehicle, the object being detected from a captured image from a vehicle-mounted camera of the vehicle.
