INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18396620 titled 'INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD

The abstract describes an information processing apparatus that selects objects detected in a captured image from a vehicle-mounted camera and generates content to be uttered to an onboard person based on the selected objects.

  • The processor sets the predetermined range for object detection based on factors such as the vehicle's speed, autonomous driving status, and the onboard person's line of sight.
  • The utterance content is tailored to the selected objects, making the communication more relevant and informative for the onboard person.

Potential Applications: - Enhanced communication between the vehicle and onboard passengers - Improved safety by providing real-time information about detected objects - Personalized user experience based on onboard person's preferences and needs

Problems Solved: - Lack of relevant and personalized communication in vehicle systems - Limited awareness of surroundings for onboard passengers - Inefficient communication of object detection information

Benefits: - Increased safety and awareness for onboard passengers - Enhanced user experience through personalized communication - Improved efficiency in conveying important information to passengers

Commercial Applications: Title: Enhanced Vehicle Communication System for Passenger Safety and Comfort This technology can be applied in autonomous vehicles, ride-sharing services, and transportation companies to improve passenger experience and safety. It can also be integrated into smart vehicle systems for enhanced communication capabilities.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does this technology improve communication between vehicles and onboard passengers? 2. What are the key factors considered in setting the predetermined range for object detection in the captured image?

Original Abstract Submitted

An information processing apparatus includes a processor configured to: select one or more first objects detected from a predetermined range in a captured image from a vehicle-mounted camera that takes an outward direction from a vehicle as a capturing range, the predetermined range being based on a field of view of an onboard person in the vehicle, and generate utterance content that takes the one or more first objects as a topic, the utterance content being to be uttered to the onboard person. The processor sets the predetermined range based on at least one of a traveling speed of the vehicle, whether traveling is performed by autonomous driving of the vehicle or not, and a position where a line of sight of the onboard person is focused on.
