INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18396620 titled 'INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD

The abstract describes an information processing apparatus that selects objects detected in a captured image from a vehicle-mounted camera and generates utterance content to be spoken to an onboard person based on the selected objects.

  • The processor sets the predetermined range for object detection based on factors such as the vehicle's speed, whether it is in autonomous driving mode, and the onboard person's line of sight.
  • The utterance content is tailored to the selected objects, making the communication more relevant and informative for the onboard person.

Potential Applications:

  • This technology can be used in vehicles to provide real-time information to passengers about objects detected in the surroundings.
  • It can enhance the communication between the vehicle system and the onboard person, improving safety and convenience during travel.

Problems Solved:

  • Addresses the challenge of effectively communicating relevant information to passengers in a vehicle.
  • Helps optimize the use of onboard cameras and processing power to enhance the user experience.

Benefits:

  • Improved communication between the vehicle system and passengers.
  • Enhanced safety and convenience during travel.
  • Optimal utilization of onboard resources for object detection and communication.

Commercial Applications:

  • This technology can be integrated into autonomous vehicles, ride-sharing services, and public transportation systems to enhance passenger experience and safety.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does this technology improve communication between the vehicle system and passengers? 2. What factors determine the predetermined range for object detection in the captured image?

Original Abstract Submitted

An information processing apparatus includes a processor configured to: select one or more first objects detected from a predetermined range in a captured image from a vehicle-mounted camera that takes an outward direction from a vehicle as a capturing range, the predetermined range being based on a field of view of an onboard person in the vehicle, and generate utterance content that takes the one or more first objects as a topic, the utterance content being to be uttered to the onboard person. The processor sets the predetermined range based on at least one of a traveling speed of the vehicle, whether traveling is performed by autonomous driving of the vehicle or not, and a position where a line of sight of the onboard person is focused on.
