FIXING UNIT AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18393830 titled 'FIXING UNIT AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

The fixing unit described in the patent application consists of a tubular film with a heat generating layer, a nip forming member with a sliding surface in contact with the film, a heat generation mechanism to generate heat in the film, and a pressing member in contact with the outer surface of the film. The film has a heat generating layer, an inner layer on the inner circumference side, and an outer layer on the outer circumference side of the heat generating layer. The sliding surface of the nip forming member has a protruded portion towards the pressing member in a third direction, with the neutral axis of the film positioned within the outer layer.

  • The fixing unit includes a tubular film with a heat generating layer.
  • A nip forming member with a sliding surface in contact with the film is part of the unit.
  • A heat generation mechanism causes the film to generate heat.
  • A pressing member is in contact with the outer surface of the film.
  • The film has a heat generating layer, an inner layer, and an outer layer.
  • The sliding surface of the nip forming member has a protruded portion.
  • The neutral axis of the film is positioned within the outer layer.

Potential Applications: - Printing industry for fixing toner onto paper. - Manufacturing industry for laminating materials together.

Problems Solved: - Efficient heat generation for fixing processes. - Uniform heat distribution across the film.

Benefits: - Improved fixing quality. - Energy-efficient heat generation.

Commercial Applications: Title: Innovative Fixing Unit for Printing and Laminating Processes This technology can be used in commercial printers, laminating machines, and other industrial equipment for fixing and laminating processes.

Questions about the Fixing Unit: 1. How does the protruded portion on the sliding surface of the nip forming member enhance the fixing process? The protruded portion helps improve contact between the film and the pressing member, ensuring efficient heat transfer.

2. What advantages does the neutral axis of the film being positioned within the outer layer provide? Positioning the neutral axis within the outer layer helps maintain stability and balance during the fixing process.

Original Abstract Submitted

A fixing unit includes a tubular film including a heat generating layer, a nip forming member including a sliding surface configured to be in sliding contact with an inner surface of the film, a heat generation mechanism configured to cause the film to generate heat, and a pressing member that is configured to be in contact with an outer surface of the film. The film includes a heat generating layer, an inner layer formed on an inner circumference side of the heat generating layer, and an outer layer formed on an outer circumference side of the heat generating layer. The sliding surface of the nip forming member includes a protruded portion that is protruded toward the pressing member in a third direction. A neutral axis of the film is positioned within the outer layer.
