SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AUTOMATICALLY CONFIGURING SURGICAL TOOLS AND SURGICAL INPUT DEVICES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18393613 titled 'SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AUTOMATICALLY CONFIGURING SURGICAL TOOLS AND SURGICAL INPUT DEVICES

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes systems and methods for automatically configuring a surgical tool and a surgical input device based on images received by the system.

  • The system identifies the surgical tool from a group of tools using image analysis and classification data.
  • It then generates instructions to pair the surgical input device with the identified surgical tool.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Automatic configuration of surgical tools and input devices based on image analysis.
  • Utilization of classification data to identify the correct surgical tool.
  • Streamlining the process of pairing surgical tools with input devices.

Potential Applications: This technology could be used in various surgical settings where multiple tools are utilized, such as operating rooms, surgical centers, and medical facilities.

Problems Solved:

  • Eliminates the need for manual configuration of surgical tools and input devices.
  • Reduces the risk of errors in pairing the wrong tool with the input device.
  • Improves efficiency and accuracy in surgical procedures.

Benefits:

  • Saves time in the setup of surgical tools.
  • Enhances patient safety by ensuring the correct tool is used.
  • Increases overall efficiency and precision in surgical operations.

Commercial Applications: The technology could be valuable for medical device manufacturers, hospitals, and surgical equipment suppliers looking to improve the efficiency and accuracy of surgical procedures.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the system analyze the images to identify the surgical tool? 2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology in real-world surgical settings?

Ensure the content is well-structured, informative, and optimized for search engines to reach a wider audience interested in advancements in surgical technology.

Original Abstract Submitted

Systems and methods for automatically configuring a surgical tool and a surgical input device for the surgical tool are provided. A system receives one or more images and identifies, based at least in part on the one or more images, the surgical tool from a plurality of surgical tools. Identifying the surgical tool from the plurality of surgical tools may comprise identifying the surgical tool from the plurality of surgical tools based at least in part on classification output data generated by one or more classifiers applied to the one or more images. The system generates an instruction to pair the surgical input device with the surgical tool.
