TONER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18392823 titled 'TONER

The patent application describes a toner with excellent low-temperature fixability and coloring power, achieved by dispersing a pigment in toner particles containing a high amount of crystalline resin.

  • Toner includes toner particles with a binder resin, pigment, and pigment dispersant.
  • Binder resin contains 20.0% to 100.0% crystalline resin for improved properties.
  • Pigment dispersant is a polymer with specific structure and monomer units for interaction with pigment and crystalline resin.

Potential Applications: - Printing industry for high-quality color printing. - Photocopying machines for clear and vibrant copies.

Problems Solved: - Improved fixability at low temperatures. - Enhanced coloring power for vivid prints.

Benefits: - Consistent and durable prints. - Reduced energy consumption due to low-temperature fixability.

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Toner Technology for High-Quality Printing This technology can be utilized in commercial printers, photocopiers, and other printing devices to produce professional-quality prints efficiently.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the high amount of crystalline resin in the toner particles improve fixability at low temperatures?

  - The crystalline resin helps maintain the structural integrity of the toner particles, allowing them to fuse effectively at lower temperatures.

2. What specific interactions do the polymer pigment dispersant and monomer units have with the pigment and crystalline resin?

  - The polymer dispersant ensures uniform dispersion of the pigment within the toner particles, enhancing color quality and consistency.

Original Abstract Submitted

Provided is such a toner that a pigment is dispersed in a toner particle containing a large amount of a crystalline resin, that is, a toner excellent in low-temperature fixability and coloring power, wherein the toner is a toner including a toner particle containing a binder resin, a pigment and a pigment dispersant, wherein the binder resin contains 20.0% by mass or more and 100.0% by mass or less of a crystalline resin, wherein the pigment dispersant is a polymer containing a specific structure that interacts with the pigment and a specific monomer unit that interacts with the crystalline resin.
