TONER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18391396 titled 'TONER

The patent application describes a toner composition containing toner particles with a crystalline organic material, including a crystalline vinyl resin, crystalline polyester, and wax components.

  • The toner particles consist of 10.0 to 90.0 mass % of the crystalline vinyl resin, crystalline polyester, and wax components.
  • The crystalline vinyl resin contains units A and B, with a specific content range of unit B.
  • The toner particles also contain 0.0020 to 0.0500 mass % of a metal that can form a complex with an acetylacetonate moiety in unit B of the crystalline resin A.
  • The acetylacetonate moiety in unit B forms a complex with the metal, and the content of unit B in the crystalline resin A has a specific range.

Potential Applications: - Printing industry for high-quality images and text - Manufacturing of toner cartridges for printers and copiers

Problems Solved: - Improved print quality and durability - Enhanced toner performance and longevity

Benefits: - Consistent and reliable printing results - Reduced maintenance and replacement costs for printing equipment

Commercial Applications: - Toner manufacturing companies - Office supply retailers

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the presence of the crystalline vinyl resin impact the performance of the toner? 2. What specific benefits does the inclusion of the wax component provide in the toner composition?

Original Abstract Submitted

A toner includes toner particles containing a crystalline organic material that contains a crystalline vinyl resin as an essential component and a crystalline polyester and a wax component as optional components. A total of the crystalline vinyl resin, crystalline polyester, and wax component with respect to the toner particles is 10.0 to 90.0 mass %. The crystalline vinyl resin contains a crystalline resin A having (i) units A and (ii) units B. The toner particles contain 0.0020 to 0.0500 mass % of a metal that can form a complex with an acetylacetonate moiety in a unit B of the crystalline resin A with respect to a mass of the toner particles. The acetylacetonate moiety of at least one of the units B in the crystalline resin A forms a complex with the metal. In the crystalline resin A, a content of the unit B is 0.50 to 10.0 mass %.
