GLASS-BASED SUBSTRATES INCLUDING RECYCLED CONTENT, AND METHODS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18389311 titled 'GLASS-BASED SUBSTRATES INCLUDING RECYCLED CONTENT, AND METHODS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes glass-based substrates with recycled content of highly crystalized cullet. The method involves melting a set of raw materials, including glass-ceramic cullet with a high percentage of crystal phase, to form a re-melted precursor material that can be used to create glass-based products.

  • Glass-based substrates with recycled content of highly crystalized cullet
  • Method involves melting raw materials including glass-ceramic cullet with high crystal phase content
  • Re-melted precursor material used to create glass-based products

Potential Applications

The technology can be applied in the manufacturing of various glass-based products such as windows, glassware, and architectural glass panels.

Problems Solved

1. Reducing the environmental impact of glass production by incorporating recycled materials. 2. Enhancing the strength and durability of glass-based products by using highly crystalized cullet.

Original Abstract Submitted

Glass-based substrates including recycled content of highly crystalized cullet are disclosed. Also disclosed are methods for manufacturing a recycled glass-based material composition, the method comprising: melting a set of raw materials, the set of raw materials comprising glass-ceramic cullet. The glass-ceramic cullet comprising: a cullet composition comprising SiO, AlO, and LiO; greater than or equal to 70% by total weight cullet crystal phase. The melting is performed in a melting vessel held at a temperature, and for a time, sufficient to melt the glass-ceramic cullet to form a re-melted precursor material. The melted precursor material may be used to form a glass-based product which may be transparent or opaque.
