FREE HINGE DRIVE SYSTEM FOR LINK OF VEHICLE SEAT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18380831 titled 'FREE HINGE DRIVE SYSTEM FOR LINK OF VEHICLE SEAT

The abstract describes a free hinge drive system for a vehicle seat link, such as a relaxation seat, that includes pinion gears, sector gears, and a brake device to control the rotation of the free hinge during relaxation operations.

  • The system consists of a first pinion gear connected to a motor, a second pinion gear connected to a brake device, and symmetrically shaped sector gears that control the rotation of the free hinge.
  • During relaxation operations, the braking force of the brake device is released, allowing the free hinge to rotate. When not in use, the braking force restrains the free hinge to prevent lift of the link in the event of a rear collision.
  • This system improves passenger safety by minimizing forward and rearward movements of the vehicle seat, enhancing stability and protection in the event of a collision.

Potential Applications: - Vehicle seats with relaxation functions - Automotive safety systems

Problems Solved: - Preventing lift of the seat link during rear collisions - Enhancing passenger safety and stability

Benefits: - Improved safety for passengers - Minimized seat movement during collisions

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Vehicle Seat Safety System This technology can be utilized in the automotive industry to enhance the safety and stability of vehicle seats, particularly in relaxation seat designs. Manufacturers can market this innovation as a premium safety feature in luxury vehicles, appealing to safety-conscious consumers.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the free hinge drive system improve passenger safety in vehicle seats?

  - The system prevents lift of the seat link during rear collisions, enhancing stability and protection for passengers.

2. What are the potential applications of this technology beyond vehicle seats?

  - This technology can be adapted for use in various automotive safety systems to improve overall vehicle safety and stability.

Original Abstract Submitted

A free hinge drive system for a link of a vehicle seat such as a relaxation seat includes a first pinion gear of a motor and a second pinion gear of a brake device that are connected by an interconnection member, and a first sector gear gear-coupled to a first pinion gear and a second sector gear gear-coupled to a second pinion gear have symmetric shapes. In operation, a free hinge of the link is rotated by release of a braking force of the brake device during a relaxation operation, and the free hinge of the link is restrained by a braking force when the relaxation operation is not performed, thereby preventing lift of a second front height link corresponding to another side output (outer side) in the event of a rear collision, improving passenger safety, and minimizing forward and rearward movements of the vehicle seat.
