METHOD FOR PROVIDING A COLLISION MODEL AND SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18370377 titled 'METHOD FOR PROVIDING A COLLISION MODEL AND SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method for providing a collision model for moving a medical device based on the relative placement of a manipulator and an object undergoing examination.

  • Detection of patient information with spatial placement of an entry point of a medical object
  • Detection of object information with geometry and spatial position of a manipulator
  • Determination of relative placement of the manipulator in relation to the object
  • Providing a collision model for moving the medical device based on the relative placement

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in medical imaging systems, surgical robots, and other medical devices that require precise movement and positioning during procedures.

Problems Solved

This technology helps prevent collisions between medical devices and objects undergoing examination, reducing the risk of damage or injury during medical procedures.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved safety, accuracy, and efficiency in medical procedures, as well as potentially reducing the need for manual intervention in device positioning.

Potential Commercial Applications

Potential commercial applications of this technology include medical device manufacturers, hospitals, surgical centers, and research institutions looking to enhance their medical imaging and surgical capabilities.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be collision detection systems used in robotics and automation to prevent collisions between robotic arms and objects in their environment.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology handle dynamic changes in the environment during medical procedures?

The abstract does not provide information on how the collision model adapts to changes in the environment, such as moving objects or shifting patient positions.

What are the limitations of the collision model in terms of accuracy and real-time performance?

The abstract does not mention the potential limitations of the collision model in terms of accuracy in predicting collisions or the speed at which it can react in real-time scenarios.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for providing a collision model includes detecting an item of patient information that has an item of information on a spatial placement of an entry point of a medical object into an object undergoing examination. The item of patient information is registered with a movable medical device. The method also includes detecting an item of object information that has an item of information on a geometry and spatial position of a manipulator for moving the medical object. The manipulator includes a motion device and/or a member of technical medical personnel. A relative placement of the manipulator in relation to the object undergoing examination is determined based on the item of patient information and the item of object information. The collision model is provided for the purpose of moving the medical device based on the relative placement and the item of object information.
