IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18368105 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an image forming apparatus with specific components such as belts, transfer rollers, and stretching rollers designed to transfer toner images effectively.

  • The image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, a first belt for transferring toner images, a first transfer roller in contact with the inner surface of the first belt, a second belt in contact with the outer surface of the first belt, a second transfer roller forming a nip portion with the first transfer roller through the second belt, and first and second stretching rollers positioned before and after the second transfer roller in the rotational direction of the second belt.
  • The first stretching roller has smaller diameter end portions in the rotational axis direction compared to the central portion, while the second stretching roller has larger diameter end portions in the rotational axis direction compared to the central portion.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various printing and copying machines to improve the transfer of toner images onto different surfaces.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of uneven toner image transfer by providing a more efficient and consistent transfer process.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved image quality, reduced maintenance needs, and increased overall efficiency in image transfer processes.

Potential Commercial Applications

This technology can be utilized in commercial printing services, office printers, photocopiers, and other imaging devices to enhance image transfer capabilities.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be similar image transfer systems in existing printing machines that may not have the specific design features described in this patent application.

Unanswered Questions

How does the size difference in the stretching rollers affect the toner image transfer process?

The size difference in the stretching rollers may impact the tension and alignment of the belts, leading to more consistent and precise toner image transfer.

What are the potential cost implications of implementing this technology in existing image forming apparatus?

The cost implications may vary depending on the complexity of the apparatus and the extent of modifications required for integration, which would need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Original Abstract Submitted

An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, a first belt to which the toner image is transferred, a first transfer roller in contact with an inner surface of the first belt, a second belt contact with an outer surface of the first belt, a second transfer roller to from a nip portion between itself and the first transfer roller through the second belt. First and second stretching roller are provided upstream and downstream of the second transfer roller in a rotational direction of the second belt, respectively. The first stretching roller includes a part, at both end portions in a rotational axis direction, of which a diameter is smaller than that a central portion. The second stretching roller includes a part, at both end portions in the rotational axis direction, of which a diameter is larger than that of a central portion.
