DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18368016 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

The display device described in the patent application includes two types of light-emitting elements that operate in different modes, with one type activated in one mode and deactivated in another, while the other type is active in both modes.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Display device with first and second light-emitting elements operating in different modes.
  • Base substrate with separate regions for each type of light-emitting elements.
  • Encapsulation layer and cover layer for protection.
  • Light-blocking patterns to control light emission.
  • Cover layer thicker than encapsulation layer for durability.

Potential Applications: This technology could be used in various display applications such as smartphones, tablets, TVs, and wearable devices.

Problems Solved: The technology addresses the need for efficient control of light emission in display devices with different operation modes.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced display performance with controlled light emission.
  • Improved durability with the use of different layers for protection.
  • Versatile applications in different electronic devices.

Commercial Applications: This technology could have significant implications in the consumer electronics market, particularly in the development of advanced display technologies for various devices.

Prior Art: Researchers interested in this technology may want to explore prior patents related to display devices, light-emitting elements, and light-blocking patterns.

Frequently Updated Research: Researchers and developers in the field of display technologies may find frequent updates on advancements in light-emitting elements and display devices relevant to this technology.

Questions about the Display Device: 1. How does the thickness of the cover layer impact the performance of the display device? 2. What are the potential challenges in integrating this technology into different types of electronic devices?

Original Abstract Submitted

Provided is a display device including first light-emitting elements activated in a first operation mode and deactivated in a second operation mode, second light-emitting elements activated in the first and second operation modes, a base substrate including a first region having a first light-emitting region where the first light-emitting elements are disposed and a first non-light-emitting region, and a second region adjacent to the first region and having a second light-emitting region where the second light-emitting elements are disposed and a second non-light-emitting region, an encapsulation layer disposed on the base substrate, a first light-blocking pattern not overlapping the first region and overlapping the second non-light-emitting region, a cover layer covering the first light-blocking pattern, and a second light-blocking pattern disposed on the cover layer and overlapping the first light-blocking pattern, wherein the thickness of the cover layer may be greater than the thickness of the encapsulation layer.
