Method and Apparatus for Providing Information on Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Hydrogen Vehicles - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18346574 titled 'Method and Apparatus for Providing Information on Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Hydrogen Vehicles

Simplified Explanation

The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for providing information on the greenhouse gas emissions of a hydrogen vehicle. The method involves receiving driving information from the vehicle, determining the filling station where hydrogen filling is performed, and calculating the greenhouse gas emissions based on the hydrogen production method of the filling station and the driving information.

  • Driving information is collected from the vehicle.
  • The filling station where hydrogen is filled is determined based on the driving information.
  • Greenhouse gas emissions of the vehicle are calculated using the hydrogen production method of the filling station and the driving information.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in the automotive industry to provide consumers with information on the environmental impact of using hydrogen vehicles. It can also be used by policymakers to assess the overall greenhouse gas emissions of hydrogen vehicles and make informed decisions regarding their promotion and adoption.

Problems Solved

This technology addresses the lack of transparency regarding the greenhouse gas emissions of hydrogen vehicles. By providing accurate information on the environmental impact of using hydrogen as a fuel source, it helps consumers and policymakers make more sustainable choices.

Benefits

- Increased awareness of the environmental impact of hydrogen vehicles - Encourages the adoption of sustainable transportation options - Supports efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the automotive sector

Potential Commercial Applications

- Automotive manufacturers can use this technology to promote the environmental benefits of hydrogen vehicles. - Filling station operators can optimize their hydrogen production methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. - Environmental organizations can use this information to advocate for the adoption of hydrogen vehicles as a cleaner alternative to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be systems that track the carbon footprint of electric vehicles based on the source of electricity used for charging. These systems are similar in concept to the present invention but focus on electric vehicles rather than hydrogen vehicles.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology impact consumer behavior towards hydrogen vehicles?

This article does not delve into the potential influence of providing greenhouse gas emissions information on consumer attitudes and purchasing decisions regarding hydrogen vehicles.

What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology on a large scale?

The article does not address the practical challenges that may arise in deploying this technology across a wide range of hydrogen vehicles and filling stations.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method and apparatus for providing information on the greenhouse gas emissions of a hydrogen vehicle are disclosed. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method of providing information on the greenhouse gas emissions of the vehicle includes receiving driving information from the vehicle, determining a filling station at which hydrogen filling is performed when it is determined based on the driving information that the hydrogen was filled in the vehicle, and determining greenhouse gas emissions of the vehicle based on a hydrogen production method of the determined filling station and the driving information.
