Method and Apparatus for SVM Top View Image Processing - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18345323 titled 'Method and Apparatus for SVM Top View Image Processing

The patent application describes an image processing apparatus for vehicles that utilizes a camera to collect images of the surroundings and an object recognition sensor to detect obstacles.

  • The apparatus displays a parking warning image on a first display based on obstacle location information.
  • A top view image is generated by the controller using the collected images and obstacle location information.
  • The top view image is automatically displayed on a second display to provide a comprehensive view of the surroundings focused on the obstacles.

Potential Applications: - Automotive industry for parking assistance systems - Autonomous vehicles for obstacle detection and avoidance

Problems Solved: - Enhances driver awareness of obstacles in the vehicle's vicinity - Improves parking safety and accuracy

Benefits: - Increased safety for drivers and pedestrians - Enhanced parking assistance for drivers - Improved obstacle detection and avoidance capabilities

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Parking Assistance System for Vehicles This technology can be utilized by automotive manufacturers to enhance their vehicles' safety features, making them more appealing to consumers. It can also be integrated into autonomous vehicles to improve obstacle detection and avoidance systems, increasing their reliability and safety.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the apparatus differentiate between different types of obstacles? - The object recognition sensor analyzes the obstacle location information to distinguish between various obstacles based on their size, shape, and distance from the vehicle. 2. Can the apparatus be integrated with other existing vehicle safety systems? - Yes, the apparatus can be integrated with other safety systems such as collision avoidance and lane departure warning systems to provide a comprehensive safety solution for vehicles.

Original Abstract Submitted

An embodiment image processing apparatus includes an image collector for collecting an image of surroundings around a vehicle using a camera attached to the vehicle, an object recognition sensor for collecting obstacle location information of an obstacle located around the vehicle, a first display for displaying a parking warning image based on the obstacle location information, a controller for generating a top view image based on the image of the surroundings and for determining to display the parking warning image based on the obstacle location information, wherein the controller generates the top view image focused on the obstacle based on the image of the surroundings and the obstacle location information, and a second display for displaying the top view image, wherein the controller automatically displays the top view image on the second display.
