ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING PIXELS CORRESPONDING TO SENSOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18334816 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING PIXELS CORRESPONDING TO SENSOR

The abstract describes an electronic device with a flexible display, two housings, a hinge structure, and sensors that can detect changes in angles to adjust the display accordingly.

  • The device can identify angle changes between the two housings and adjust the display pixels accordingly.
  • It deactivates specific pixels based on the angle change and activates the remaining pixels to optimize the display.
  • The technology allows for a seamless transition between different viewing angles on the flexible display.

Potential Applications:

  • This technology could be used in foldable smartphones, tablets, or laptops to enhance user experience.
  • It could also be applied in wearable technology such as smartwatches or fitness trackers with flexible displays.

Problems Solved:

  • Addresses the challenge of maintaining optimal display quality on flexible screens when the device is folded or unfolded.
  • Ensures a smooth transition between different viewing modes without compromising visual performance.

Benefits:

  • Enhances user interaction with flexible displays by automatically adjusting pixel activation based on the device's orientation.
  • Improves the durability and longevity of flexible display technology by optimizing pixel usage.

Commercial Applications:

  • The technology could be integrated into consumer electronics, automotive displays, or medical devices with flexible screens to provide a more versatile user experience.

Prior Art:

  • Researchers and developers in the field of flexible displays and hinge mechanisms may have explored similar concepts in the past. Further investigation into related patents and publications could provide additional insights.

Frequently Updated Research:

  • Stay informed about advancements in flexible display technology, sensor integration, and hinge mechanisms to understand the evolving landscape of this innovation.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the device differentiate between different viewing angles to adjust the display pixels? 2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology on a larger scale in commercial products?

Original Abstract Submitted

An example electronic device includes a flexible display, a first housing, a second housing, a hinge structure, a first region, and a display region including a second region surrounding the first region, a first sensor, a second sensor in the first housing, and a processor. The processor is configured to identify an angle change between the first surface of the first housing and the third surface of the second housing from a first angle to a second angle, identify a second set of pixels among the pixels in the first region corresponding to the second angle from reference data, deactivate the second set of identified pixels, and activate the remaining pixels except for the second set of pixels.
