Heat Pump System for Vehicle - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18330619 titled 'Heat Pump System for Vehicle

The embodiment of a heat pump system for a vehicle described in the abstract includes a valve that controls the flow of a coolant, various lines connected to the valve, a radiator, an electrical component, a battery module, a chiller, and connections between these components.

  • The system features a valve that can switch between connecting different lines depending on the selected mode.
  • The first line connects the valve to the radiator and an electrical component.
  • The second line connects the valve to a battery module.
  • A first connection line includes a chiller and is connected to the valve.
  • A second connection line links the first connection line to the other lines.
  • A third connection line connects the first line to the first connection line, allowing for fluid flow between the radiator and the electrical component.

Potential Applications: - This heat pump system can be used in electric vehicles to efficiently manage the temperature of various components. - It can also be applied in hybrid vehicles to optimize energy usage and cooling processes.

Problems Solved: - Provides a flexible and efficient way to control the flow of coolant within a vehicle's cooling system. - Helps regulate the temperature of critical components, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.

Benefits: - Improved energy efficiency in vehicle cooling systems. - Enhanced thermal management for better overall vehicle performance. - Increased reliability and lifespan of electrical components in vehicles.

Commercial Applications: - Automotive industry: Integration into electric and hybrid vehicles for improved cooling and energy efficiency. - HVAC industry: Adaptation for residential and commercial heating and cooling systems.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the valve in this heat pump system operate to control the flow of coolant effectively? 2. What are the specific advantages of using this heat pump system in electric vehicles compared to traditional cooling systems?

Original Abstract Submitted

An embodiment heat pump system of a vehicle includes a valve controlling a flow of a coolant, a first line having ends connected to the valve, a radiator and an electrical component on the first line, a second line having ends connected to the valve, a battery module on the second line, a first connection line including a first end connected to the valve, a chiller on the first connection line, a second connection line including ends connected to the second and first connection lines, and a third connection line including a first end connected to a second end of the first connection line and a second end connected to the first line between the radiator and the electrical component, wherein the valve operates such that the first, second, or first connection line is connected to another line or to itself depending on the selected mode.
