METHOD, ELECTRONIC DEVICE, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM PRODUCT FOR ADJUSTING PERFORMANCE OF BLOCK STORAGE SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18295933 titled 'METHOD, ELECTRONIC DEVICE, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM PRODUCT FOR ADJUSTING PERFORMANCE OF BLOCK STORAGE SYSTEM

The method described in the abstract involves monitoring the input/output (I/O) load of a block storage system over different time periods, determining changes in the I/O load, and adjusting the system's performance based on predetermined thresholds.

  • Monitoring of I/O load sets within different time periods
  • Determining changes in I/O load based on the monitored sets
  • Adjusting I/O performance of the block storage system in response to reaching predetermined thresholds

Potential Applications: - Data backup and restoration systems - Performance optimization in storage systems - Predictive maintenance in IT infrastructure

Problems Solved: - Efficient management of I/O loads in block storage systems - Proactive adjustment of system performance to prevent overload

Benefits: - Improved system reliability and performance - Enhanced data protection and security - Cost-effective maintenance and operation of storage systems

Commercial Applications: Title: "Optimized Performance Management for Block Storage Systems" This technology can be utilized in various industries such as cloud computing, data centers, and enterprise storage solutions. It can help companies improve the efficiency and reliability of their storage infrastructure, leading to better overall performance and cost savings.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does this method differ from traditional performance monitoring systems? - This method focuses on proactive adjustment of system performance based on predetermined thresholds, rather than reactive responses to issues. 2. What are the key factors that determine the optimal threshold levels for adjusting I/O performance? - The threshold levels are typically preconfigured based on the specific requirements and capabilities of the block storage system.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method includes monitoring a first input/output (I/O) load set of the block storage system within a first time period and a second I/O load set within a second time period, wherein the block storage system is configured to back up and restore data in a client and has preconfigured predetermined thresholds. The method further includes determining a change of an I/O load of the block storage system based on the first I/O load set and the second I/O load set. The method further includes determining, based on the change of the I/O load, that an I/O load within a third time period reaches a first predetermined threshold. The method further includes adjusting I/O performance of the block storage system based on the I/O load within the third time period in response to determining that the I/O load within the third time period reaches the first predetermined threshold.
