BOARD CONNECTOR AND DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18291741 titled 'BOARD CONNECTOR AND DEVICE

The abstract of this patent application describes a board connector designed to be mounted on a circuit board inside a metal enclosure. The connector includes a housing with a receptacle open at the front, an outer conductor fixed to the housing, an insulating dielectric inside the outer conductor, an inner conductor inside the dielectric, and a ground spring connected to the outer conductor. The ground spring has a contact point portion that resiliently contacts the enclosure.

  • The board connector is mounted on a circuit board inside a metal enclosure.
  • The connector includes a housing with a receptacle open at the front.
  • An outer conductor is fixed to the housing through the rear wall.
  • An insulating dielectric is disposed inside the outer conductor.
  • An inner conductor is located inside the dielectric.
  • A ground spring is connected to the outer conductor and has a contact point portion that contacts the enclosure.

Potential Applications: - Telecommunications equipment - Industrial machinery - Automotive electronics

Problems Solved: - Ensures secure and reliable electrical connections in harsh environments - Provides grounding for the circuit board within a metal enclosure

Benefits: - Improved signal integrity - Enhanced durability in rugged conditions - Easy installation and maintenance

Commercial Applications: Title: "Rugged Board Connector for Harsh Environments" This technology can be used in telecommunications equipment, industrial machinery, and automotive electronics to ensure reliable electrical connections in challenging environments.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the ground spring ensure proper grounding within the metal enclosure? 2. What are the advantages of using a board connector with an outer conductor in harsh environments?

Original Abstract Submitted

A board connector of the present disclosure is to be mounted on a circuit board accommodated inside an enclosure made of metal, and provided with a housing including a receptacle open forward and a rear wall provided on a side opposite to a front end part where the receptacle is open, an outer conductor fixed to the housing through the rear wall , an insulating dielectric disposed inside the outer conductor , an inner conductor disposed inside the dielectric , and a ground spring to be connected to the outer conductor . The ground spring includes a contact point portion having a curved surface shape projecting toward the enclosure , and the contact point portion resiliently contacts the enclosure
