CONNECTOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18290225 titled 'CONNECTOR

The patent application describes a connector with a housing, a terminal, a wire pull-out opening, a wire holding portion, a shield shell, and a wire pressing portion.

  • The connector housing contains a wire pull-out opening for wires to be pulled out.
  • A terminal is housed within the connector housing for wire connection.
  • The wire holding portion, made of synthetic resin, holds a projecting part of the wire.
  • A shield shell, made of metal, covers the connector housing and is fixed to it.
  • The wire pressing portion, made of metal, is bolt-fastened to the shield shell, sandwiching the wire holding portion.

Potential Applications: - Electrical connectors in various industries such as automotive, aerospace, and electronics. - Data transmission systems requiring secure wire connections.

Problems Solved: - Secure wire connection and insulation within the connector housing. - Protection of wires from external elements and damage.

Benefits: - Enhanced durability and reliability of wire connections. - Easy installation and maintenance of the connector.

Commercial Applications: - Manufacturing of electrical equipment and devices. - Integration into communication systems for improved connectivity.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the wire holding portion improve the stability of wire connections? 2. What are the advantages of using a shield shell in the connector design?

Frequently Updated Research: - Ongoing studies on the efficiency of different materials for wire holding portions in connectors.

Original Abstract Submitted

A connector is provided with a connector housing including a wire pull-out opening, a terminal accommodated in the connector housing, a wire connected to the terminal and to be pulled out to outside of the connector housing through the wire pull-out opening, a wire holding portion made of synthetic resin and configured to hold a projecting part of the wire by being externally fit to the projecting part adjacent to the wire pull-out opening and projecting outward through the wire pull-out opening, a shield shell made of metal and configured to cover the connector housing by being fixed to the connector housing, and a wire pressing portion made of metal and to be bolt-fastened to the shield shell while sandwiching the wire holding portion between the shield shell and the wire pressing portion in a first direction intersecting an axial direction of the wire.
