HANDLING RADIO LINK FAILURE IN THE UU INTERFACE IN CASE OF SIDELINK RELAY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18288610 titled 'HANDLING RADIO LINK FAILURE IN THE UU INTERFACE IN CASE OF SIDELINK RELAY

The abstract describes a method performed by a Layer 2, L2, UE-to-Network Relay User Equipment, UE, in a 5G telecommunication network to support connectivity for a remote UE. The method involves detecting a Radio Link Failure (RLF) in the interface between the Relay UE and a network node, and then signaling information to the remote UE regarding the RLF status.

  • Detection of Radio Link Failure (RLF) in the interface between Relay UE and network node
  • Signaling RLF status information to the remote UE
  • Information includes detection of RLF, recovery status, and recovery status of the Relay UE

Potential Applications: - Enhancing connectivity and reliability in 5G telecommunication networks - Improving communication between Relay UE and remote UE - Facilitating seamless handover and network management

Problems Solved: - Addressing Radio Link Failures in the interface - Ensuring timely communication of RLF status to the remote UE - Enhancing network performance and user experience

Benefits: - Improved network reliability and connectivity - Enhanced communication efficiency - Better management of network failures and recovery processes

Commercial Applications: Title: "Enhanced Connectivity Solutions for 5G Networks" This technology can be utilized by telecommunication companies to improve the performance and reliability of their 5G networks, leading to better user experiences and increased customer satisfaction. It can also be integrated into network management systems to streamline operations and enhance overall network efficiency.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the Relay UE detect and signal Radio Link Failures in the network? 2. What are the potential implications of improved connectivity and reliability in 5G networks for telecommunication companies?

Original Abstract Submitted

A method performed by a Layer 2, L2, UE-to-Network Relay User Equipment, UE, in a 5G telecommunication network, wherein said Relay UE is arranged to provide functionality to support connectivity for a remote UE in said 5G telecommunication network, said method including the steps of detecting, by said Relay UE, a Radio Link Failure, RLF, in an interface between the Relay UE and a network node of the 5G telecommunication network, upon detection of said RLF, signalling, by said Relay UE, at least one of the following information to said remote UE: RLF has been detected by said Relay UE, said Relay UE has recovered from said detected RLF and/or said Relay UE has not recovered from said detected RLF.
