EXTENDED DRX ASSISTANCE SIGNALING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18285039 titled 'EXTENDED DRX ASSISTANCE SIGNALING

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method for operating a radio access network (RAN) by configuring extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) for user equipment (UE) based on assistance information received from a core network (CN) node.

  • Receiving eDRX assistance information from a CN node
  • Generating a RAN eDRX configuration for the UE
  • Configuring the UE with the RAN eDRX configuration

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in telecommunications networks to optimize power consumption and improve network efficiency by implementing eDRX configurations for UEs.

Problems Solved

1. Power consumption optimization in RANs 2. Efficient network resource utilization

Benefits

1. Improved battery life for UEs 2. Enhanced network performance 3. Reduced network congestion

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing power consumption in IoT devices Enhancing network efficiency in 5G networks

Possible Prior Art

Prior art may include methods for configuring eDRX in RANs or optimizing power consumption in wireless networks.

Unanswered Questions

1. How does this method compare to existing techniques for configuring eDRX in RANs? 2. What impact does this technology have on overall network performance and efficiency?

Original Abstract Submitted

A method of operating a radio access network (RAN) includes receiving, from a core network (CN) node, extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) assistance information describing a CN eDRX configuration for a user equipment (UE) served by the RAN node, generating a RAN eDRX configuration for the UE based on the eDRX assistance information, and configuring the UE with the RAN eDRX configuration. Related methods of operating a CN node and UE are disclosed.
