Questions about Cylindrical Battery Technology

What are the key advantages of using a cylindrical battery in portable electronic devices?

Cylindrical batteries offer high energy density and compact size, making them ideal for portable electronic devices where space and weight are critical factors. Additionally, their cylindrical shape allows for efficient packaging and thermal management.

How does the variation in height of uncoated portions in the winding axis direction impact battery performance?

The variation in height of uncoated portions helps in optimizing the electrical conductivity and structural integrity of the electrodes. It allows for better distribution of current and heat dissipation within the battery, leading to improved overall performance and longevity.

Original Abstract Submitted

A cylindrical battery includes an electrode assembly in which a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator interposed therebetween are wound. The first electrode and the second electrode include a first uncoated portion and a second uncoated portion, respectively. At least one of the first uncoated portion and the second uncoated portion includes a core-side uncoated portion, an outer circumference uncoated portion, and an intermediate uncoated portion interposed therebetween. At least one of the core-side uncoated portion and the outer circumference uncoated portion has a relatively smaller height than the intermediate uncoated portion in a winding axis direction. The cylindrical battery also includes a battery housing configured to accommodate the electrode assembly through an opening and electrically connected to the second uncoated portion; an external terminal electrically connected to the first uncoated portion through a closed portion of the battery housing; and a cap plate covering the opening.
