NETWORK, NETWORK ADJUSTMENT METHOD, NETWORK DEVICE, RECEPTION TERMINAL, AND TRANSMISSION TERMINAL - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18261738 titled 'NETWORK, NETWORK ADJUSTMENT METHOD, NETWORK DEVICE, RECEPTION TERMINAL, AND TRANSMISSION TERMINAL
Simplified Explanation
The patent application aims to reduce the size of buffer memory required for synchronized playback by adjusting latency time differences between multiple paths for sending content to reception terminals.
- The network determines multiple paths for sending content to reception terminals.
- Latency time differences between paths are adjusted to fall within a predetermined length of time.
- Adjustment is made by changing the path with lower latency, reducing the need for buffer memory.
- Information on adjusted latency time is sent to reception terminals for setting appropriate buffering sizes during playback.
Potential Applications
This technology can be applied in:
- Video streaming services
- Online gaming platforms
- Live event broadcasting
Problems Solved
- Reduced buffer memory requirements
- Improved synchronized playback experience
- Efficient utilization of network resources
Benefits
- Enhanced user experience
- Cost savings on buffer memory
- Optimal utilization of network bandwidth
Potential Commercial Applications
Optimized Latency Adjustment for Synchronized Playback Technology in:
- Streaming services
- Gaming platforms
- Virtual events
Possible Prior Art
One possible prior art could be the use of adaptive bitrate streaming techniques to adjust playback quality based on network conditions.

Original Abstract Submitted
A size of a buffer memory to be prepared on a receiving side for synchronized playback is reduced. A network can determine a plurality of paths for sending, from a transmission terminal to a reception terminal, a corresponding plurality of pieces of content to be played back in synchronization. A latency time difference between the plurality of paths is adjusted by an adjustment unit to fall within a predetermined length of time. For example, the adjustment is made by changing the path having the lower latency. This makes it possible to reduce the size of the buffer memory to be prepared on the receiving side. For example, the adjustment unit sends information on an adjusted latency time to a plurality of reception terminals connected to the plurality of paths. On the basis of this information, the plurality of reception terminals can set a buffering size used during synchronized playback of the content to an appropriate size.
