Methods and Devices for Sidelink Transmissions - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18260387 titled 'Methods and Devices for Sidelink Transmissions

Simplified Explanation

The method described in the patent application involves a first terminal device transmitting signaling to suggest different configurations for sidelink discontinuous reception (SL DRX) to a second terminal device. The second terminal device then responds to each configuration, indicating whether it fully accepts, fully rejects, or partly accepts the suggestion. This process aims to reduce latency, power consumption, and signaling overhead, as well as minimize data loss due to active time misalignment and achieve a balance between UE power consumption and sidelink transmission performance.

  • The method involves suggesting different SL DRX configurations to a second terminal device.
  • The second terminal device responds to each suggestion, indicating acceptance, rejection, or partial acceptance.
  • The goal is to reduce latency, power consumption, and signaling overhead, while minimizing data loss and optimizing UE power consumption for sidelink transmissions.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in wireless communication systems to improve efficiency and performance of sidelink transmissions.
  • It can be used in IoT devices, vehicle-to-vehicle communication, and other scenarios where direct device-to-device communication is crucial.

Problems Solved

  • Reducing latency, power consumption, and signaling overhead in sidelink communications.
  • Minimizing data loss due to active time misalignment.
  • Achieving a good balance between UE power consumption and performance of sidelink transmissions.

Benefits

  • Improved efficiency and performance of sidelink transmissions.
  • Enhanced reliability and stability in direct device-to-device communication.
  • Optimal use of resources leading to better overall system performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method implemented by a first terminal device () is provided. The method comprises: transmitting a signaling indicating a suggestion on one or more sidelink discontinuous reception, SL DRX, configurations to a second terminal device (); receiving a first response for each of the SL DRX configurations from the second terminal device (). The first response may indicate one of: fully accepting, by the second terminal device, the suggestion; fully rejecting, by the second terminal device (), the suggestion; and partly accepting, by the second terminal device, the suggestion. Latency, power consumption and signaling overhead may be reduced. Data loss due to active time misalignment may be minimized. A good tradeoff between UE power consumption and performance of sidelink transmissions may be achieved.
