SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AUTHORIZATION OF PROXIMITY BASED SERVICES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18240998 titled 'SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AUTHORIZATION OF PROXIMITY BASED SERVICES

The patent application describes systems and methods for authorizing proximity-based services using wireless communication devices.

  • The first wireless communication device sends a message to the second device to access a network via the second device as a relay node, using authentication and key management for applications (AKMA) service.
  • The message includes an AKMA key identifier (A-KID) and a freshness parameter.
  • The first device generates a validation token to validate against the second device's validation token, using the freshness parameter and a proximity-based service function (PBSF) key (K).

Potential Applications: - Secure access to networks through relay nodes. - Proximity-based services in IoT devices. - Enhanced security for wireless communication.

Problems Solved: - Ensuring secure access to networks through relay nodes. - Providing authentication for proximity-based services. - Preventing unauthorized access to networks.

Original Abstract Submitted

Presented are systems and methods for authorization of proximity based services. A first wireless communication device may send, to a second wireless communication device, a message to access a network via the second wireless communication device as a relay node, using at least one authentication and key management for applications (AKMA) service. The message may include an AKMA key identifier (A-KID) and a freshness parameter. The first wireless communication device may generate a validation token to validate against another validation token of the second wireless communication device. The first wireless communication device may generate the validation token using the freshness parameter and a proximity based service function (PBSF) key (K).
