Power-Sensitive Control of Virtual Agents - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18226536 titled 'Power-Sensitive Control of Virtual Agents

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for reducing power consumption in a device by selectively providing sensor data to a virtual agent based on its associated sensory characteristic. The virtual agent is represented in an environment displayed on a screen, and the manipulation of the agent is based on the interpretation of the sensor data.

  • The method involves displaying an environment with a virtual agent on a screen.
  • A subset of sensors is selected based on the sensory characteristic associated with the virtual agent.
  • Sensor data captured by the selected subset of sensors is provided to the virtual agent.
  • The provision of sensor data helps reduce power consumption of the device.
  • The representation of the virtual agent is manipulated based on the interpretation of the sensor data.

Potential Applications:

  • Virtual reality and augmented reality systems
  • Gaming and interactive entertainment
  • Robotics and automation
  • Assistive technologies for individuals with disabilities

Problems Solved:

  • Reducing power consumption in devices
  • Enhancing user experience in virtual environments
  • Improving efficiency and accuracy of sensor data interpretation

Benefits:

  • Extended battery life for devices
  • Enhanced realism and immersion in virtual environments
  • Improved control and interaction with virtual agents
  • Reduced resource usage and improved efficiency in sensor data processing.

Original Abstract Submitted

In some implementations, a method includes displaying, on a display, an environment that includes a representation of a virtual agent that is associated with a sensory characteristic. In some implementations, the method includes selecting, based on the sensory characteristic associated with the virtual agent, a subset of a plurality of sensors to provide sensor data for the virtual agent. In some implementations, the method includes providing the sensor data captured by the subset of the plurality of sensors to the virtual agent in order to reduce power consumption of the device. In some implementations, the method includes displaying a manipulation of the representation of the virtual agent based on an interpretation of the sensor data by the virtual agent.
