TECHNOLOGIES FOR PROVIDING EFFICIENT POOLING FOR A HYPER CONVERGED INFRASTRUCTURE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18219557 titled 'TECHNOLOGIES FOR PROVIDING EFFICIENT POOLING FOR A HYPER CONVERGED INFRASTRUCTURE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes technologies for efficient pooling in a system with a hyper converged infrastructure. The system includes a sled with a network interface controller that can connect to other bridge logic units in a network. The main purpose is to provide access to requested devices, whether they are located on the present sled or on a remote sled.

  • The network interface controller on the sled can connect to a network of bridge logic units.
  • It can receive a request from a device to access a specific device.
  • It determines if the requested device is on the present sled or on a different remote sled.
  • If the requested device is on the present sled, it powers on the device and provides access to the requestor.
  • If the requested device is on a remote sled, it communicates with the bridge logic unit on that sled to provide access to the requestor.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Data centers and cloud computing environments that use hyper converged infrastructure.
  • Virtualization technologies that require efficient pooling of resources.
  • Systems that need to provide access to devices located on different sleds.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Efficient pooling of resources in a hyper converged infrastructure.
  • Simplified access to devices located on different sleds.
  • Streamlined communication between bridge logic units.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved resource utilization and efficiency.
  • Simplified management of devices in a hyper converged infrastructure.
  • Enhanced flexibility and scalability in accessing devices across sleds.

Original Abstract Submitted

Technologies for providing efficient pooling for a system that includes a hyper converged infrastructure. A sled of the system includes a network interface controller that includes a first bridge logic unit to communicatively couple to a network of bridge logic units. The first bridge logic unit is further to obtain, from a requestor device, a request to access a requested device, determine whether the requested device is on the present sled or on a remote sled different from the present sled, selectively power on, in response to a determination that the requested device is located on the present sled, the requested device, communicate, in response to a determination that the requested device is on the remote sled, with a second bridge logic unit of the remote sled, and provide, to the requestor device through the first bridge logic unit, access to the requested device
