According to an embodiment, the method includes maintaining a current transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state set including one or more activated TCI states; receiving TCI state information specifying an indicated TCI state set including one or more of the activated TCI states; and updating the current TCI state set based on the indicated TCI state set.
