CONTROL MODES FOR HYBRID VEHICLES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18181289 titled 'CONTROL MODES FOR HYBRID VEHICLES

The abstract describes systems and methods for controlling a hybrid vehicle that can switch between wheeled and walking locomotion modes. The vehicle includes sensors to receive external commands during a supplementary control mode, with an interpreter directing the vehicle control system to execute these commands.

  • The hybrid vehicle features a chassis and leg-wheel components for both wheeled and walking locomotion.
  • Sensors receive external commands during a supplementary control mode.
  • An interpreter interprets these commands and directs the vehicle control system.
  • The vehicle control system executes the external commands to control the hybrid vehicle.

Original Abstract Submitted

Systems and methods for controlling a hybrid vehicle are provided. The hybrid vehicle may comprise a chassis, a plurality of leg-wheel components coupled to the chassis, wherein the plurality of leg-wheel components may be configured to be collectively operable to provide wheeled locomotion and walking locomotion. The hybrid vehicle may comprise at least one sensor configured to receive one or more external commands during a supplementary control mode, and an external command interpreter configured to interpret the one or more external commands and direct a vehicle control system. The vehicle control system may be configured to control the hybrid vehicle to effectuate the one or more external commands.
