OPTICAL SENSOR PACKAGE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18179744 titled 'OPTICAL SENSOR PACKAGE

The abstract describes an optical sensor module with a protective dam made of photosensitive epoxy materials to create a gap between the lid and the sensor die. The epoxy materials can change between liquid and solid phases during assembly and can be fully hardened by curing. The protective dam can be a single layer or a multi-layer stack with different properties, acting as a spacer to minimize the tilt angle of the lid with respect to the sensor.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the photosensitive epoxy material contribute to the protection of the optical sensor module? - The photosensitive epoxy material acts as a protective dam to create a gap between the lid and the sensor die, minimizing tilt angle and providing optimal performance. 2. What are the potential advantages of using a multi-layer stack of epoxy materials in the protective dam? - A multi-layer stack of epoxy materials can offer different properties for enhanced protection and performance of the optical sensor module.

Original Abstract Submitted

An optical sensor module includes a transparent lid spaced apart from the optical sensor die by a protective dam. The dam can be formed by photosensitive epoxy materials that can be patterned using a photolithography process. The epoxy materials can change between liquid and solid phases during assembly, and then can be fully hardened by curing. The protective dam can be formed as a single layer, or as a multi-layer stack of epoxy materials, in which the layers may have different properties. In some implementations, the epoxy dam acts as a spacer that provides a substantially uniform gap to minimize a tilt angle of the transparent lid with respect to the optical sensor.
