SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR TRAFFIC STEERING IN RADIO ACCESS NETWORK BASED ON TRANSPORT NETWORK AND CORE NETWORK INFORMATION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18170269 titled 'SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR TRAFFIC STEERING IN RADIO ACCESS NETWORK BASED ON TRANSPORT NETWORK AND CORE NETWORK INFORMATION

The patent application describes a device with a processor that can establish communication sessions or data flows for user equipment connected to a Radio Access Network (RAN).

  • The processor obtains key performance indicators (KPIs) for paths in a transport network used by the RAN to connect to a core network.
  • It determines the KPI requirement for the communication session or data flow.
  • Based on the obtained KPI information and the determined requirement, the processor selects a path in the transport network.
  • The device then establishes the communication session or data flow using the selected path.

Potential Applications: - Telecommunications industry for optimizing network performance. - Internet service providers for improving data flow efficiency.

Problems Solved: - Enhances network performance by selecting optimal paths based on KPIs. - Improves user experience by ensuring efficient data flow.

Benefits: - Increased network efficiency and reliability. - Enhanced user satisfaction with improved data flow.

Commercial Applications: Title: "Optimized Network Path Selection Technology for Enhanced Communication Sessions" This technology can be used by telecommunications companies to offer improved network performance to their customers, leading to higher customer satisfaction and retention. It can also be utilized by internet service providers to optimize data flow and enhance overall service quality, attracting more subscribers.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does this technology improve network performance for user equipment connected to a Radio Access Network? 2. What are the key benefits of using KPIs to select paths in a transport network for establishing communication sessions or data flows?

Original Abstract Submitted

A device may include a processor configured to receive a request to establish a communication session or data flow for a user equipment (UE) device connected to a Radio Access Network (RAN). The processor may be further configured to obtain key performance indicators (KPI) information relating to one or more KPIs for a plurality of paths in a transport network used by the RAN to connect to a core network; determine a KPI requirement for the communication session or data flow to be established; select a path in the transport network based on the obtained KPI information and the determined KPI requirement; and establish the communication session or data flow in the transport network using the selected path.
