Robot Management in Populated Areas - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18159663 titled 'Robot Management in Populated Areas

The techniques and systems described in this patent application focus on enabling robot management in populated areas. Specifically, a vehicle system equipped with advanced sensor suites receives sensor data that indicates aspects of the environment near the vehicle. Based on this sensor data, the system determines whether robots are present in the vicinity of the vehicle. If a robot is detected, the system analyzes the attributes of the robot based on the sensor data and generates a robot message that includes indications of these attributes. This robot message is then transmitted to a robot management system for further processing. By leveraging the vast number of vehicles with advanced sensor suites, the robot management system can effectively monitor robots, verify routes, and identify unregistered robots.

  • Vehicle system equipped with advanced sensor suites
  • Detection of robots in the environment near the vehicle
  • Analysis of robot attributes based on sensor data
  • Generation and transmission of robot messages to a robot management system
  • Leveraging vehicles to monitor robots, verify routes, and identify unregistered robots

Potential Applications: - Urban robot management - Security and surveillance in populated areas - Autonomous vehicle coordination with robots - Industrial automation and robotics

Problems Solved: - Efficient monitoring and management of robots in populated areas - Verification of robot routes - Identification of unregistered robots

Original Abstract Submitted

The techniques and systems herein enable robot management in populated areas. Specifically, a vehicle system receives sensor data indicating aspects of an environment proximate a vehicle that comprises the vehicle system. Based on the sensor data, it is determined whether robots are in the environment proximate the vehicle. Responsive to determining that a robot is in the environment proximate the vehicle, attributes of the robot are determined based on the sensor data. A robot message is then generated that includes indications of the attributes of the robot, and the robot message is transmitted for receipt by a robot management system. By using the described techniques, the robot management system can leverage the vast number of vehicles with advanced sensor suites to monitor robots. Doing so may enable verification of routes and identification of robots that are not registered.
