FISSION PRODUCT TRAP FOR SALT PIPE AND PUMP SHAFT SEALS AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18157561 titled 'FISSION PRODUCT TRAP FOR SALT PIPE AND PUMP SHAFT SEALS AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF
Simplified Explanation:
The patent application describes a fission product trap for a reactor system, such as for a pipe connection and/or a pump shaft, which includes a porous container with an absorbing material to collect fission products emitted from the system.
- The fission product trap includes a porous container mounted around the pipe connection and/or pump shaft.
- An absorbing material within the porous container collects fission products emitted from the system.
- An assembly surrounds the porous container, creating a volume around the pipe connection and/or pump shaft.
Key Features and Innovation:
- Utilizes a porous container with an absorbing material to trap fission products.
- Designed to be mounted around pipe connections and pump shafts in a reactor system.
- Provides a containment solution for fission products emitted from the system.
Potential Applications:
- Nuclear power plants
- Reactor systems
- Fission product containment
Problems Solved:
- Containment of fission products emitted from reactor systems
- Preventing the release of harmful radioactive materials into the environment
Benefits:
- Enhanced safety in reactor systems
- Minimization of environmental impact
- Improved containment of radioactive materials
Commercial Applications:
Potential commercial applications include:
- Nuclear power plants
- Research reactors
- Nuclear waste storage facilities
Questions about Fission Product Trap:
1. How does the absorbing material in the porous container trap fission products? 2. What are the specific benefits of using a fission product trap in a reactor system?
Original Abstract Submitted
A fission product trap for a reactor system, such as for a pipe connection and/or a pump shaft of a pump of the reactor system, includes a porous container. The porous container may be mounted about the pipe connection and/or pump shaft and include an absorbing material contained therein. The absorbing material may be configured to collect fission products emitted from the pipe connection and/or the pump shaft. The fission product trap further includes an assembly encompassing the porous container and that defines a volume about the porous container and the pipe connection and/or the pump shaft.
