VIDEO NOTIFICATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18156961 titled 'VIDEO NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

The abstract describes systems and methods for notifying users about videos in a playback sequence. The technology involves determining the availability of a video that meets a specific criterion on a video server associated with a messaging client. Once the video is available, the messaging client prefetches a sequence of videos from a recommendation engine that match the user's profile, and these videos are automatically played back in a sequence on a video playback GUI.

  • The technology notifies users about available videos in a playback sequence.
  • It determines the availability of specific videos on a video server.
  • The messaging client prefetches a sequence of videos based on the user's profile.
  • Videos are automatically played back in a sequence on a video playback GUI.
  • Notifications are presented on the GUI to indicate the availability of specific videos.
      1. Potential Applications:

This technology can be applied in video streaming platforms, social media apps, and messaging services to enhance user engagement and provide personalized video recommendations.

      1. Problems Solved:

  - This technology enhances user engagement by providing personalized video recommendations based on the user's profile, leading to a more tailored viewing experience.

2. What are the key features of the recommendation engine used in this technology?

  - The recommendation engine matches the user's profile with a sequence of videos, prefetches them for playback, and ensures a seamless viewing experience on the video playback GUI.

Original Abstract Submitted

Systems and methods are provided for notifying users about videos in a playback sequence. The systems and methods determine that a video that meets a criterion is currently available on a video server associated with a messaging client. In response to determining that the video that meets the criterion is currently available, the messaging client on the client device prefetches a sequence of videos from a recommendation engine that match a profile of a user associated with the messaging client. The recommendation engine is being used to provide sequence of videos to a video playback graphical user interface (GUI) that automatically plays back the videos in the sequence. The systems and methods determine that the video that meets the criterion is in a first position in the sequence of videos and, in response, present a notification that indicates the availability of the video on the video playback GUI.
