ELECTRONIC PEDAL APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18117937 titled 'ELECTRONIC PEDAL APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The electronic pedal apparatus described in the patent application includes a pad that moves and rotates along a pad guide in line contact with the guide, generating acceleration or braking signals for a vehicle depending on the direction of movement of the pad.

  • Pad moves and rotates along a pad guide
  • Generates acceleration or braking signals for a vehicle
  • Movement direction of the pad determines the type of signal generated

Potential Applications

The technology could be applied in automotive systems, such as electronic throttle controls or brake-by-wire systems.

Problems Solved

This technology simplifies the operation of vehicle acceleration and braking systems by using a single pad for both functions.

Benefits

The electronic pedal apparatus offers a more intuitive and streamlined way for drivers to control vehicle acceleration and braking, potentially improving safety and driving experience.

Potential Commercial Applications

  • Automotive industry for electronic throttle controls
  • Automotive industry for brake-by-wire systems

Possible Prior Art

There may be prior art related to electronic pedal systems in vehicles, but specific examples are not provided in the patent application.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology impact driver behavior and performance?

This article does not delve into the potential effects of using a single pad for both acceleration and braking on driver behavior and performance.

What are the potential cost implications of implementing this technology in vehicles?

The article does not address the potential costs associated with integrating this electronic pedal apparatus into vehicles.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic pedal apparatus includes a pad that rectilinearly moves and rotates along a pad guide while being kept in line contact with the pad guide including a shape of an arc when a driver operates the pad, an acceleration signal or a braking signal for a vehicle is generated by operation of the single pad, and a movement direction of the pad at the time of generating the acceleration signal is different from a movement direction of the pad at the time of generating the braking signal.
