METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PATCH BOOK-BASED ENCODING AND DECODING OF VIDEO DATA - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18104984 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PATCH BOOK-BASED ENCODING AND DECODING OF VIDEO DATA
Simplified Explanation
The patent application describes a method and apparatus for encoding and decoding video data using a patch book. The method involves determining a patch book list for a block of video data and determining index values for the block. Each index value corresponds to a patch book entry with color values for a subset of pixels in the block. The method also includes reconstructing subsets of pixels based on the patch book list and index values.
- The method uses a patch book list to store color values for subsets of pixels in a video block.
- Index values are used to indicate which patch book entries correspond to subsets of pixels in the block.
- By reconstructing subsets of pixels using the patch book list and index values, video data can be efficiently encoded and decoded.
Potential Applications
- Video compression and transmission
- Video streaming services
- Video editing and post-production
Problems Solved
- Efficient encoding and decoding of video data
- Reduction in storage and bandwidth requirements for video transmission
- Improved video quality and resolution
Benefits
- Reduced file sizes for video data
- Faster video transmission and streaming
- Improved video quality and resolution
- More efficient video editing and post-production processes
Original Abstract Submitted
Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for patch book-based encoding and decoding of video data. A video data decoding method comprises the steps of: determining a patch book list for a block of video data; and determining one or more index values for the block. Each of the index values indicates a patch book entry having color values corresponding to a subset of pixels in the block, among patch book entries of the patch book list. The decoding method further comprises a step of reconstructing subsets of the pixels on the basis of the patch book list and the index values for the block.
