FACE REGION BASED AUTOMATIC WHITE BALANCE IN IMAGES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18079826 titled 'FACE REGION BASED AUTOMATIC WHITE BALANCE IN IMAGES

The patent application describes a method, device, and computer-readable media for automatically adjusting white balance in an image based on face detection and color calculation.

  • Detect a face in the image and determine a region of interest (ROI) for the face.
  • Perform a face color calculation based on the ROI for the face.
  • Adjust the white balance in the image based on the face color calculation to obtain an output image.

Potential Applications: - Photography and image editing software - Video conferencing applications - Security systems with facial recognition technology

Problems Solved: - Inaccurate white balance in images with varying lighting conditions - Tedious manual adjustment of white balance in each image

Benefits: - Improved color accuracy in images - Time-saving automated white balance adjustment - Enhanced visual quality in photography and video applications

Commercial Applications: "Automatic White Balance Adjustment Technology for Enhanced Image Quality in Photography and Video Editing"

Prior Art: Prior art related to this technology can be found in research papers on image processing algorithms and color correction techniques.

Original Abstract Submitted

Implementations described herein relate to methods, devices, and computer-readable media to automatically adjust white balance in an image. In some implementations, a computer-implemented method includes detecting a face in the image, wherein the face corresponds to a plurality of pixels. The method further includes determining a region of interest (ROI) for the face, wherein the region of interest excludes at least one pixel from the plurality of pixels that correspond to the face. The method further includes performing a face color calculation for the face based on the region of interest for the face. The method further includes adjusting the white balance in the image based on the face color calculation to obtain an output image.
