DAMPER CONTROL SYSTEMS AND METHODS BASED ON OIL DETECTED FROM FORWARD IMAGES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18079468 titled 'DAMPER CONTROL SYSTEMS AND METHODS BASED ON OIL DETECTED FROM FORWARD IMAGES

The patent application describes a damper control system for vehicles that can adjust damping coefficients of adjustable dampers based on road conditions.

  • Lane module identifies boundaries of the vehicle's present lane in an image captured by a forward-facing camera.
  • Oil module determines the presence of oil on the road between the lane boundaries.
  • Damping module adjusts damping coefficients of dampers when oil is present on the road to improve vehicle stability.

Potential Applications: - Automotive industry for vehicle safety and stability enhancement. - Autonomous vehicles to improve response to changing road conditions.

Problems Solved: - Enhances vehicle stability and control in hazardous road conditions. - Improves safety by preemptively adjusting damping coefficients.

Benefits: - Increased vehicle safety and stability. - Enhanced performance in challenging road conditions. - Potential reduction in accidents related to oil spills on roads.

Commercial Applications: Title: "Advanced Damper Control System for Enhanced Vehicle Safety" This technology can be utilized by automotive manufacturers to enhance the safety features of their vehicles, appealing to safety-conscious consumers and potentially reducing the risk of accidents.

Prior Art: Further research can be conducted on existing damper control systems and technologies used in the automotive industry to address road hazards.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on advancements in vehicle safety systems, road condition detection technologies, and autonomous vehicle development to enhance the capabilities of the damper control system.

Questions about the Damper Control System: 1. How does the damper control system improve vehicle stability in hazardous road conditions? 2. What are the potential implications of integrating this technology into autonomous vehicles?

Original Abstract Submitted

A damper control system includes: a lane module configured to identify boundaries of a present lane of a vehicle in an image of a road in front of the vehicle captured using a forward facing camera; an oil module configured to, from the image, determine whether an area of oil is present on the road between the boundaries of the present lane of the vehicle; and a damping module configured to, when the area of oil is present on the road between the boundaries of the present lane of the vehicle, selectively adjust damping coefficients of adjustable dampers of the vehicle before the vehicle reaches the area of oil on the road.
