DATA STORAGE PLACEMENT SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18078800 titled 'DATA STORAGE PLACEMENT SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a system that manages data storage placement by predicting processing operations, determining storage and compute system types, and storing data in a suitable storage subsystem.

  • The data storage management device predicts processing operations on data.
  • It determines the type of storage subsystem and compute system needed based on the processing operations.
  • The system identifies a suitable storage subsystem and compute system for storing the data.
  • The data is then transmitted and stored in the identified storage subsystem.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Predicts processing operations on data for efficient storage placement.
  • Determines storage subsystem and compute system types based on processing operations.
  • Identifies suitable storage subsystem and compute system for data storage.

Questions about Data Storage Placement System: 1. How does the system predict processing operations on data? 2. What are the key benefits of optimizing storage subsystem and compute system selection based on processing operations?

Original Abstract Submitted

A data storage placement system includes a data storage management device that is coupled to a data provisioning device, a storage system, and a plurality of compute systems. The data storage management device receives data from the data provisioning device, predicts at least one processing operation that will be performed on the data, determines a first storage subsystem type based on the at least one processing operation, and determines a first compute system type based on the at least one processing operation. The data storage management device then identifies a first storage subsystem that is included in the storage system, that includes the first storage subsystem type, and that is proximate a first compute system in the plurality of compute systems that includes the first compute system type. The data storage management device then transmits the data for storage in the first storage subsystem.
