PORTABLE SYSTEM TO CAPTURE AND STORE LIQUID CARBON DIOXIDE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18077619 titled 'PORTABLE SYSTEM TO CAPTURE AND STORE LIQUID CARBON DIOXIDE

The abstract describes a patent application for a system and method for hydraulic fracturing using liquid CO2.

  • Liquid CO2 is flowed through a pipeline connected to a wellhead at the surface to perform hydraulic fracturing in a wellbore.
  • After the hydraulic fracturing operation is completed, a portion of the liquid CO2 is withdrawn from the pipeline into a storage container.
  • The storage container is a portable system designed to capture and store liquid CO2, and it is fluidically coupled to the pipeline at the surface.

Potential Applications: - Enhanced oil and gas recovery - Geothermal energy production - Carbon capture and storage projects

Problems Solved: - Efficient hydraulic fracturing operations - Reduced environmental impact by capturing and storing liquid CO2 - Portable storage solution for liquid CO2

Benefits: - Increased efficiency in well stimulation processes - Reduced carbon emissions through capture and storage of CO2 - Versatile system for various applications in the energy industry

Original Abstract Submitted

A hydraulic fracturing operation is performed in a wellbore formed in a subterranean zone. A wellhead is installed at an entrance to the wellbore. Liquid COis flowed through a pipeline located at a surface and fluidically coupled to the wellhead. The liquid COis flowed into the wellbore through the wellhead to perform the hydraulic fracturing. The hydraulic fracturing operation including flowing of the liquid COthrough the pipeline to the wellhead is stopped. A portion of the liquid COis withdrawn from within the pipeline into a liquid COstorage container, which is a portable system designed to capture and store liquid COand that is fluidically coupled to the pipeline at the surface.
