TERMINATION OF SIDECAR CONTAINERS - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18074423 titled 'TERMINATION OF SIDECAR CONTAINERS
Simplified Explanation
The abstract of the patent application describes a method performed by a controller in a Kubernetes cluster, involving identifying a job to be completed, determining sidecar containers associated with the job, querying the Kubernetes control plane to confirm job completion, and triggering termination of the sidecar container upon job completion.
- The method involves identifying a job to be completed by the Kubernetes cluster.
- The method includes determining at least one sidecar container associated with the identified job.
- The method queries the Kubernetes control plane to verify job completion.
- Upon confirming job completion, the method triggers the termination of the sidecar container.
Potential Applications
This technology could be applied in various industries where Kubernetes clusters are used for job management and container orchestration.
Problems Solved
This technology streamlines the process of managing sidecar containers in Kubernetes clusters, ensuring efficient resource utilization and timely termination of containers upon job completion.
Benefits
The method described in the patent application helps optimize the operation of Kubernetes clusters by automating the management of sidecar containers, reducing manual intervention and improving overall system performance.
Potential Commercial Applications
One potential commercial application of this technology could be in cloud computing services, where efficient container management is crucial for delivering reliable and scalable solutions.
Possible Prior Art
Prior art in this field may include existing methods for managing sidecar containers in container orchestration platforms, as well as techniques for automating job completion verification in distributed systems.
Unanswered Questions
How does this method handle failures in job completion verification?
The abstract does not mention how the method addresses potential failures in verifying job completion through the Kubernetes control plane.
What security measures are in place to protect the termination trigger of sidecar containers?
The abstract does not provide details on the security measures implemented to ensure the safe triggering of sidecar container termination upon job completion.
Original Abstract Submitted
In various examples there is a method performed by a controller in Kubernetes cluster. The method comprises: identifying a job to be completed by the cluster, from a plurality of jobs. In response to identifying a job to be completed by the cluster, determining at least one sidecar container associated with the job. In response to identifying a job to be completed by the cluster, determining that the job has been completed by querying a Kubernetes control plane of the cluster. In response to determining that the job has been completed, triggering termination of the sidecar container.
