Devices, Systems, and Methods for Automated Weight Measuring and Inventory Management of Consumer Goods - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18072173 titled 'Devices, Systems, and Methods for Automated Weight Measuring and Inventory Management of Consumer Goods

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes devices, systems, and methods for weight-based tracking and pricing of consumer goods. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • A scale device detects a change in weight of a display area.
  • A camera captures an image of the display area.
  • Processors identify objects in the image and associate the weight change with the identified object to determine a transaction value.
  • A display device shows a rendition of the display area with the object and transaction value.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in retail settings for automated pricing and tracking of products based on weight.

Problems Solved

This technology streamlines the process of pricing and tracking consumer goods, reducing the need for manual input and potential errors.

Benefits

- Improved accuracy in pricing and tracking of goods - Increased efficiency in retail operations - Enhanced customer experience with automated processes

Potential Commercial Applications

Automated checkout systems in supermarkets and retail stores could benefit from this technology, improving speed and accuracy of transactions.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be automated checkout systems that use barcode scanning for pricing and tracking of products.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology handle objects that are not easily identifiable in images?

The patent application does not specify how the system deals with objects that are difficult to identify visually.

What measures are in place to ensure the accuracy of weight-based pricing?

The patent application does not detail any quality control processes to verify the accuracy of weight-based pricing calculations.

Original Abstract Submitted

Devices, systems, and methods for weight-based tracking and pricing of consumer goods. The devices, systems, and methods may include detecting, by a scale device, a first change in weight of a display area; capturing, by a first imaging camera, a first image featuring the display area; detecting, by one or more processors, a first object in the first image; identifying, by the one or more processors, the first object; associating, by the one or more processors, the detected first change in weight with the identified first object to determine a transaction value associated with the identified first object based upon the detected first change in weight; and displaying, by a display device, a rendition of the display area, the rendition containing a representation of the first object and the transaction value.
