COMPUTER APPLICATION ERROR ROOT CAUSE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18070333 titled 'COMPUTER APPLICATION ERROR ROOT CAUSE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL

Simplified Explanation

The technology disclosed in this patent application is for diagnosing and mitigating errors in computer applications by efficiently determining the root cause of an error affecting a computer application using a set of fault profiles associated with the application.

  • Fault profiles include information regarding specific faults, such as failing computer resources, that may be the root cause of errors in the application.
  • Telemetry data associated with the root cause fault is included in the fault profile.
  • When an error is detected, telemetry data from the time of the error is compared against the set of fault profiles to determine a similar fault profile, which helps in identifying the root cause of the error.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various industries where computer applications are critical, such as healthcare, finance, and manufacturing.

Problems Solved

This technology helps in quickly identifying and resolving errors in computer applications, reducing downtime and improving overall system reliability.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved system performance, reduced maintenance costs, and enhanced user experience.

Potential Commercial Applications

Potential commercial applications of this technology include software development companies, IT service providers, and organizations with complex computer systems.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art for this technology could be fault detection and diagnosis systems used in industrial automation and control systems.

What are the specific fault profiles used in this technology?

The specific fault profiles used in this technology include information about failing computer resources that may be the root cause of errors in the computer application. Telemetry data associated with the root cause fault is also included in the fault profile.

How does this technology compare against traditional error diagnosis methods?

This technology improves upon traditional error diagnosis methods by efficiently determining the root cause of errors in computer applications using a set of fault profiles and telemetry data, which helps in quickly identifying and resolving issues.

Original Abstract Submitted

Technology is disclosed for diagnosing and mitigating errors in computer applications. One implementation facilitates determining a root cause of an error affecting a computer application. A root cause of a computer application error is efficiently determined using a set of fault profiles associated with the computer application. A fault profile includes information regarding a particular fault, such as a failing computer resource, which may be the root cause of another error or condition that is detected during the operation of the computer application. A fault profile can also include telemetry data that typically occurs on the computer system in connection with the particular root cause fault. Upon detecting an error, telemetry data from the time of the error is compared against the set of fault profiles, and a fault profile that is similar is determined. Based on the similar fault profile, the root cause of the error is determined.
