PHOTOACOUSTIC DEVICES AND SYSTEMS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18069859 titled 'PHOTOACOUSTIC DEVICES AND SYSTEMS

The apparatus described in the patent application includes a platen, a light source system, and an ultrasonic receiver system. The light source system illuminates a target object on the platen's outer surface, directing light along a specific angle. The ultrasonic receiver system picks up ultrasonic waves emitted by the target object in response to the light.

  • The light source system provides light to a target object on the platen's outer surface.
  • The light is directed along a specific angle relative to the platen's surface.
  • The ultrasonic receiver system receives ultrasonic waves generated by the target object in response to the light.
  • The receiver system includes one or more receiver elements in a specific plane.
  • The angles at which the light and receiver system are oriented are different.

Original Abstract Submitted

An apparatus may include a platen, a light source system and an ultrasonic receiver system. The light source system may be configured to provide light to a target object on an outer surface of the platen. The light source system may be configured to direct the light along a first axis oriented at a first angle relative to the outer surface of the platen. The ultrasonic receiver system may be configured to receive ultrasonic waves generated by the target object responsive to the light from the light source system. The ultrasonic receiver system may include one or more receiver elements residing in a receiver plane. A normal to the receiver plane being may be oriented along a second axis at a second angle relative to the outer surface of the platen. The first angle may be different from the second angle.
