FLEXIBLE DOWNLINK-UPLINK SWITCHING TIME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18069616 titled 'FLEXIBLE DOWNLINK-UPLINK SWITCHING TIME

The present disclosure pertains to wireless communication, where a user equipment (UE) may receive a transmission pattern configuration with downlink symbols, uplink symbols, and flexible symbols.

  • The flexible symbols occur before the first uplink symbol and after the last downlink symbol in the pattern.
  • A DL-UL switching time happens during an unused downlink symbol and before the first flexible symbol.
  • The UE can transmit an uplink communication during the first flexible symbol after the DL-UL switching time.

Potential Applications: - This technology could be applied in 5G and future wireless communication systems. - It may enhance the efficiency and reliability of uplink communications in wireless networks.

Problems Solved: - Addressing the need for seamless DL-UL switching in wireless communication systems. - Improving the overall performance of uplink transmissions in a wireless network.

Benefits: - Enhanced user experience with more efficient uplink communications. - Increased reliability and stability of wireless networks.

Commercial Applications: "Enhancing Uplink Communication Efficiency in 5G Networks"

Questions about Uplink Communication Efficiency: 1. How does the DL-UL switching time impact the overall performance of the wireless network?

  - The DL-UL switching time ensures seamless transition between downlink and uplink communications, improving network efficiency.

2. What are the potential challenges in implementing flexible symbols in transmission patterns for wireless communication?

  - Implementing flexible symbols may require careful coordination to ensure compatibility with existing network infrastructure and devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive a configuration of a transmission pattern including a plurality of downlink symbols, one or more uplink symbols, and one or more flexible symbols, wherein the one or more flexible symbols occur before a first of the one or more uplink symbols and after a last of the plurality of downlink symbols in the transmission pattern, wherein a downlink-uplink (DL-UL) switching time occurs during an unused downlink symbol of the plurality of downlink symbols and before a first of the one or more flexible symbols. The UE may transmit, after the DL-UL switching time, an uplink communication during a first of the one or more flexible symbols. Numerous other aspects are described.
