BACKSCATTER-BASED POSITIONING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18060408 titled 'BACKSCATTER-BASED POSITIONING

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for wireless communication that supports backscatter-based positioning. This method involves receiving measurement reports from two different transmission/receiving points (TRPs) and using line of sight information to determine the position of a tag device.

  • The method involves receiving measurement reports from two TRPs.
  • The position of the tag device is determined based on the received measurement reports and line of sight information.
  • Backscatter-based positioning is supported by this wireless communication method.

Potential Applications

The technology described in this patent application could be applied in various industries and scenarios, including:

  • Asset tracking
  • Indoor navigation systems
  • Inventory management
  • Smart agriculture

Problems Solved

This technology helps solve the following problems:

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art related to this technology is the use of RFID technology for asset tracking and inventory management. However, the backscatter-based positioning method described in this patent application offers a more advanced and accurate solution for wireless communication.

What are the specific technical details of the backscatter-based positioning method described in the patent application?

The patent application provides a detailed explanation of how the backscatter-based positioning method works, including the process of receiving measurement reports from multiple TRPs, utilizing line of sight information, and determining the position of the tag device.

How does the backscatter-based positioning method improve accuracy compared to traditional positioning systems?

The patent application does not explicitly mention how the backscatter-based positioning method improves accuracy compared to traditional systems. Further information or testing would be needed to determine the specific improvements in accuracy offered by this technology.

Original Abstract Submitted

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and devices for wireless communication that support backscatter-based positioning. In a first aspect, a method of wireless communication includes receiving, from a first transmission/receiving point (TRP), a first measurement report associated with a positioning session for a tag device. The method further includes receiving, from a second TRP, a second measurement report. The method also includes determining a position of the tag device based on the first measurement report, the second measurement report, and line of sight information associated with a line of sight between the first TRP and the second TRP. Other aspects and features are also claimed and described.
