Software Defined Community Cloud - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18059239 titled 'Software Defined Community Cloud

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method for implementing software-defined community clouds, where access requests to projects are evaluated based on compliance requirements.

  • Simplified Explanation:

The method involves granting or denying access requests to projects based on compliance requirements set by a compliance regime.

  • Explanation:

- Receiving access requests to projects from requestors. - Evaluating each request to ensure compliance with specific requirements. - Granting access if all requirements are met, denying access if any requirement is not satisfied.

  • Potential Applications:

- Secure access control in community cloud environments. - Ensuring data governance and compliance within projects.

  • Problems Solved:

- Ensuring compliance with regulations and standards. - Preventing unauthorized access to sensitive project data.

  • Benefits:

- Enhanced security and data protection. - Efficient management of access requests in community cloud settings.

  • Potential Commercial Applications:

- Cloud service providers offering secure access control solutions. - Compliance management software for organizations handling sensitive data.

  • Possible Prior Art:

- Existing access control systems in cloud computing. - Compliance management tools for data governance.

Questions:

1. How does the method determine compliance requirements for each project? 2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this access control method in a large-scale community cloud environment?

Answer:

1. The method determines compliance requirements for each project based on the specific regulations and standards set by the compliance regime governing the project data. 2. Challenges may include scalability issues in managing access requests for a large number of projects, as well as ensuring real-time evaluation of compliance requirements for each request.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for implementing software-defined community clouds includes receiving, from a first requestor, a first access request requesting access to a first project of a plurality of projects. Each project includes project data governed by a compliance regime that enforces compliance requirements. The method includes, for each compliance requirement, determining that the first access request satisfies the compliance requirement. The method includes, based on determining that the first access request satisfies compliance requirements, granting the first requestor access to the first project. The method includes receiving, from a second requestor, a second access request requesting access to a second project and determining that the second access request fails to satisfy one of the one of the compliance requirements. The method also includes, based on determining that the second access request fails to satisfy one of the compliance requirements, denying the second requestor access to the second project.
