CONVERTIBLE TRANSFER SWITCH - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18047842 titled 'CONVERTIBLE TRANSFER SWITCH

The patent application describes a system and method for connecting electrical loads to two power sources using a switching device and a controller.

  • The switching device includes two pairs of semiconductor devices for managing the connection of the loads to the power sources.
  • The controller receives electronic signals indicating the condition of the power sources and controls the switching device accordingly.
  • It can isolate one power source from the loads and connect the other power source based on the received signals.
  • The system ensures efficient and reliable power supply to the loads by intelligently managing the power sources.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be used in smart grid systems to optimize power distribution. - It can be implemented in renewable energy systems to efficiently utilize multiple power sources. - Industrial applications where redundant power sources are required for critical operations.

Problems Solved: - Efficiently managing multiple power sources for reliable power supply. - Ensuring seamless transition between power sources without interruptions to the loads. - Optimizing power distribution based on the condition of the power sources.

Benefits: - Increased reliability and stability of power supply. - Energy efficiency through intelligent power management. - Redundancy and backup capabilities for critical systems.

Commercial Applications: Title: "Smart Power Management System for Enhanced Reliability" This technology can be commercialized for use in industrial facilities, data centers, and smart grid infrastructure to improve power reliability and efficiency. It can also be integrated into renewable energy systems to maximize energy utilization.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the controller determine which power source to connect to the loads? 2. What are the key advantages of using semiconductor devices in the switching device for power management?

Original Abstract Submitted

A system and a method for connecting electrical load(s) to a first power source and a second power source including a switching device and a controller. The switching device includes a first semiconductor device pair and a second semiconductor device pair. The controller configured to receive a first set of electronic signals corresponding to a condition of the first power source and the second power source, isolate the first power source or the second power source from the one or more loads by transmitting a first set of control signals to the switching device, receive a second set of electronic signals corresponding to the condition of the first power source and the second power source, and connect the first power source or the second power source to the one or more loads by transmitting a second set of control signals to the switching device.
