Navigation Route Sharing - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18010160 titled 'Navigation Route Sharing

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for navigation, specifically focusing on location sharing requests associated with user contacts.

  • The technology involves receiving a navigation request from a user and determining if it is related to a user contact.
  • If the request is linked to a user contact, a location sharing request is generated, requesting location data associated with the user contact.
  • This location sharing request is sent to a remote computing system connected to the user contact.
  • Upon receiving the location data, output is generated with navigation indications for the user to reach the locations associated with the user contact.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Navigation system that integrates user contacts for location sharing requests.
  • Generation of location sharing requests for specific user contacts.
  • Remote computing system interaction for location data retrieval.
  • Output generation with navigation indications based on received location data.

Potential Applications: The technology can be applied in:

  • Social networking apps for location sharing with friends.
  • Delivery services for efficient route planning.
  • Emergency services for locating individuals in need of assistance.

Problems Solved:

  • Facilitates easier navigation to locations associated with user contacts.
  • Enhances user experience by providing personalized navigation guidance.
  • Improves efficiency in reaching destinations by leveraging location sharing requests.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced user convenience in navigation.
  • Improved communication and coordination with user contacts.
  • Efficient route planning and navigation guidance.

Commercial Applications: Potential commercial applications include:

  • Location-based social networking platforms.
  • Delivery and logistics companies for optimized route planning.
  • Emergency response services for quick location identification.

Questions about Navigation Technology: 1. How does the technology ensure the privacy and security of location data shared with user contacts? 2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this navigation system on a large scale?

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on advancements in location-based services and navigation technologies to enhance the functionality and efficiency of the system.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, devices, and tangible computer readable media for navigation are provided. The disclosed technology can include receiving a navigation request from a user. There is a determination of whether the navigation request is associated with a user contact of the user. In response to the navigation request being associated with the user contact, a location sharing request can be generated. The location sharing request includes a request for location data including information associated with locations associated with the user contact. The location sharing request can be sent to a remote computing system associated with the user contact. Furthermore, in response to receiving the location data from the remote computing system, output can be generated. The output can include indications associated with navigation by the user to at least one of the locations associated with the user contact.
